Trip to Petronius & Neptune - May 17, 2014© Photos Posted by Mark Miller © Hi-Res Source
This was our first Diving/Fishing trip with the new Yammy 300. The seas were cooperative so we ran all the way to Petronius since that is where the blue water charts showed good water. Along the way we stopped briely at the Fox Tug and pulled on some Red Snapper, then briefly at VK-385 where Paul entered the water with a chum sack and his freediving gear to boat a nice Cobia in front of several boats who had been there a while. I then made a dive on the Submarine spot (165 feet deep) where I spotted a nice 30-40 pound Gag Grouper (Out of Season). We also stopped at MP356 for a quick dive and to try and get some live bait. There were some stud AJs there but we wanted to save ice for the tuna. Then we tried MP355 before finally making it to Petronius. There were quite a few boats but no apparent Tuna action. Omar and I made a dive there on Petronius and Omar got a nice Scamp while I took pictures and video. We started some trolling toward Marlin but got impatient and picked up and ran to Neptune Spar where Luke boated a nice Scamp. Paul and Omar wore out the Mangroves and they had some really nice size to them. Luke chummed up the sharks with a Jack Cravelle he poked at MP356. I took pics and video as usual. Then Omar wanted an AJ so we went north to the first Rig on the shelf (I don't remember which one). He poked 2 AJs there and Paul said he knew where a Cobia was if we could make it before sunset. We headed to his secret hole and made it just after sunset where he bagged another Cobia in the twilight. It was a fun day in the Sun that encompassed 196nm, 16.5 hours, and 111.2 gallons of fuel.
