Fishing with Sanna, Gym, JP, and Ivan on June 14, 2024© Photos Posted by Mark Primo Miller © Hi-Res Source
Sanna brought her Brazilian crew, Gym, JP, and Ivan to go catch some Red Snapper. We started at the Triple Rig and caught some live bait (Blue Runners, aka HardTails). We then went into FH-13 and then further South. We struggled to find keepers (over 16 inches) and most were around 13-14 inches indicating some commercial pressure (their size limit is 13 inches). Then the weather got a bit sporty contrary to the forecast. This kept us from going deep which was my initial inclination. We then started an Easterly track and JP wanted to try spearfishin which he had not done in a while. We made one dive on Platform CA43 and another on Platform MP154. We each got a Red Snapper on CA43 but a murky bottom and skittish Snapper plagued us on MP154. I unloaded my gun on a LookDown which was excellent table fare. We only got 7 or our 10 fish limit but it was a good day on the water. The Trip encompassed 143 miles, 88 gallons of fuel, and 14.5 hours.
