This was a trip with the Deepwater Mafia crew on their Sheepshead Shootout to get some fish for a benefit fish fry. Because Red Snapper & Amberjack were closed, we targeted Sheepshead. This is the reason closing fish seasons completely is so wrong. It puts pressure on other species and puts the public in unsafe conditions. It is spawning season for Sheepshead so this is biologically the worse time to target this species. Anyway, the predominant spot for this activity is the Triple Rig, about 10 miles off Petit Bois Island. The water looked very dirty so we went another 14 miles to VK113. However on arrival, the Rig had been removed, thanks to Obama and his Idle Iron Policy. Almost all the close in Rigs have been removed now. Since the water was so dirty, we decided to go East in search of cleaner water. We kept going and not finding it. Eventually we ended up at VK251. On the way back, we stopped at the Triple Rig where Darin made a dive and got a nice stringer. In hind sight we probably should have just hit the Triple Rig and not gone out farther, but we did have a great day on the water. All the Deepwater Mafia members have nicknames. I appointed the name "Die Hard" to Darin for diving so much and not giving up. I appointed the name "Mango" to Wesley cause he always seems to find the Mangrove Snapper when he goes out with me. We will see if the names stick.
