Red Snapper Season opened Friday, May 22 in Mississippi and we were planning to do it, especially because the forecast was initially great. But as I was loading the boat early in the morning, the wind was howling and the updated forecast did not look very good. We ended up aborting the trip hoping one day over this Memorial Day weekend would improve. However the forecast was not looking good for any of the days. Eager, we decided to go the next day no matter what and so we did just that. The crew consisted of Freediver Zac Cooper, Doug Fontaine, and his brother Christian. Freediver Chad Patti was coming on Friday but could not make Saturday. We started fishing the closer in Fish Havens but the larger fish were not biting very well. Zac wanted to Freedive oil rigs so we went to the close by Air Force "C" Tower which had about 7 boats around it. Zac got a smaller snapper there while Doug and Christian got a nice one. We then went back to dive a wreck and only needed one as we were able to poke our limit there. It was rough, but we had a fun day out getting us some delicious Red Snapper. The trip encompassed 88 miles, 57 gallons of fuel, and 11 hours.
