Tuna Tuesday at the Horseshoe on March 17, 2020© Photos Posted by Mark Primo Miller © Hi-Res Source
This was a last second run out to the Horseshoe (East Lump) in search of the 200 lb Tunas we kept seeing posted on Facebook. My son Paul shot one of the 5 they got on the day before. So many posts of hot hot and epic the bite was. On top of that the weather window was opening up perfectly, better than in a very long time. Then my phone rings at 10:15pm and it is my old buddy Marty. He says, meet me and my 2 buddies at the dock at 4:30am to go catch some of those big tuna. So, I start texting my boss at Century Bank thinking I wasn't gonna get a response. I really hated to even ask because of all the things we were addressing due to the Corona Virus situtation. After several back and forths, I actually got clearance and off I went. We get to the grounds just before 8am to find a bunch of boats already working them. We hooked one on our first drop and fought it for an hour and a half. It was difficult to get the video shortened as much as I did but hopefully it conveys how hard it really is to land one of these beautiful fish. We only got 1 big girl but that was all we needed. We also got a blackfin tuna as well. I counted 92 boats around mid-day. It was like the East Lump Boat Show, so if you were out there, see if I got you on my Camera down below. I seared some fresh, made some Poke', and put some away in the Freezer. Beautiful Meat on these fish.
