Chillin or Killin in Orange Beach Alabama on June 20, 2018© Photos Posted by Mark Primo Miller © Hi-Res Source
This was a trip to Orange Beach with Joe Havard on his 22 Coastal Cat, the "Chillin or Killin". Also onboard was Casey Craven and his son Konner. We were heading out there to witness the sinking of the "New Venture" Reef, a 250' Research Vessel. However the project was postponed due to the contractor having mechanical problems. It was postponed a couple more times and eventually deployed about a week later. Since we were already enroute, we just went for a day of Diving. We started at the LuLu and then dove several rubble piles and pyramids. We saw dolphins, manta rays, and a leatherback sea turtle. We speared just enough fish for supper. The weather was perfect and calm making for a grand day on the water. Eventually the New Venture was deployed on June 26. The Pilot house is reported at 57', sitting pretty close to north/south at coordinates 29°54.052'N 87°32.896'W. There are Videos and Photos posted on Social Media and linked below. Alabama is second to none in the Reef Building Business. Also, Pam came out and joined me in Orange Beach as we spent the night and enjoyed a little get away there. I took some photos from our balcony as seen below.
