Trip to VK-385 Cutoff & More - June 25, 2017© Photos Posted by Mark Miller © Hi-Res Source
Brax Broadus went with me last year and came this time with his friend Ben Parsons. I invited Kendall Terrell and Jason Jones to go as well. We decided to run East because Tropical Storm Cindy came up the Louisiana-Texas border on June 22 and dumped a ton of water on the area. Although this was primarily a fishing trip, I made 3 dives while out there. The first one on an old Tire Pyramid where I should have shot a scamp grouper, the second on some natural bottom but I apparently missed the actual reef. My 3rd Dive was on the VK385 cutoff platform on the way back in. Part of the Alabama rigs to reef program, this platform was cut off 62' below the water line and the top placed adjacent to the base. All Idle Iron Platforms should be retired this way. As you can see the platform is alive with life. Another great trip on Primofish.com that emcompassed 152 miles, 94 gallons of fuel, and 15 hours.
