FAD1 Visit on December 24, 2016© Photos Posted by Mark Miller © Hi-Res Source
This was a visit to FAD1 in FH-13. The PVC Fish Attracting Device (FAD) was deployed on August 10, 2014. It is anchored to a Limestone Pyramid that was deployed in 2007. It gives the reef some height since our bottoms are soft and subside into a crater in the bottom. This is denoted by a maximum depth reading of 81 feet while the surrounding area is 76 feet deep. It also gives additional surface area for life encrustation thereby increasing biomass and fish populations. The cold waters this time of year (64°F) show much fewer bait fish and activity. Even the barnacles are closed up and not feeding. Compare this video with the July 23, 2015 visit to see the marked differences, or watch the entire FADs Playlist.
