USM Sensor Retrieval FH-13 & FH-7, Plus MP242© Photos Posted by Mark Miller © Hi-Res Source
This was a trip to retrieve two data recorders, one from the Barataria Bay in FH-13 and one from the Jumbo Barge in FH-7. MGFB has been working cooperatively with a USM project headed up by Dr. Scott Milroy. A dozen recorders were placed across the Mississippi Gulf Coast to record dissolved oxygen, temp, and salinity in 15 minute intervals. Following the work we headed off to the Cans where we bagged some Mahi Mahi and lost a big fat blackfin tuna. The freediving crew consisted of my son Paul Miller and 3 of his buddies, Austin Powell, Don Pion, and Julian Skelton. After the run on Mahi Mahi, we dove on MP242 where I made my third and final dive of the day. The visibility was much worse than in closer at FH-7 where it was exceptionally nice. However it was good enough to get some photos and I saw a nice fat Gag Grouper but didn't have my gun so I just got some skirting video of him down deep as shown in the third video. The total trip encompassed 172.5 miles, 97.6 gallons of fuel, and 14.5 hours.
