Father & Son time at Horn Island - October 9, 2016© Photos Posted by Mark Miller © Hi-Res Source
Ben lives in St. Augestine, but Hurricane Matthew was plowing down on his turf so he evacuated back home to us. He had not been home in a while so we were thrilled. The wind was up to 24 knots this morning so we didn't plan anything offshore and decided to go out to Horn Island. We stopped at the new man-made spoil Island adjacent to Round Island and did some bird photography before heading on out to Horn Island. The good Lord was with us as the North winds died down and we had a great time checking out the Arcturus Wreck on the lee side of the Island. Lots of Mangrove Snapper, Bluefish, Mullet, Spades, etc. We had a great time. Afterward we visited a wreck out a little further in 45 feet of water. Ben practiced his freediving skills while I went with my traditional SCUBA. It was some great Father-Son time. On the way in we stopped by the Deep Water Mafia crew bunched up just off the beach. Then my freind Brandon Bosarge saw us going under the bridge and called me over to check out the trout fishing he was doing with his son Blake. Kinda cool with us both doing the Father-Son thing. Our final stop was at the new Community College Island Pier to check out what they built it to. It was just a little round hiking trail. Hopefully they will build more lookouts on the backside bayou there. This trip encompassed 59 miles, 24 gallons of fuel, and 8 hours.
