This was a trip with Tommy Phelps on his "Deep Obsession" along with Jennifer Day, Amanda Scoggin, and Omar Vasquez. Our primary mission was to take Amanda out to try spearfishing. The trip started out pretty rough and we plugged our way through out to VK69. We found a pair of Amberjack there and bagged one of them. We went over to the C-Rig Air Force Tower but found Divers already in the water and we didn't do anything there. We then went back to FH-13 and dove the Mike Jenner Tug Boat and the Wicomico Pogie Boat. After that we stopped at a Shrimp Boat where we picked up a nice 45 pound Cobia. Here is the story as I posted on Facebook. We pull up to the shrimp boat and he has a chum bag over the back and he's out there on the deck. He said he hadn't seen any Ling but he had seen a lot of sharks but they went down deep. So Tommy and I decided we would go down to see sharks. We see absolutely nothing. Chum all around us, no sharks, no Cobes, nothing, not even fish. So we come up and while getting all our gear off the shrimper yells at us that there's a ling over there. We think he's full of crap but we go over anyway. Sure enough Omar spots him first as it comes up towards the boat. Tommy scuffles his dive gear quickly and jumps in and starts hunting. I grab my jig Rod, which I almost didn't even bring because nobody else was fishing, and I drop it down and he gulps it up. He was Fighting pretty good but we finally got him up towards the boat and Tommy couldn't seem to get a shaft in him while he was down deep but Jennifer puts one through his head at the side of the boat from the boat and then Tommy follows up with another one through the head from the water. Then Omar pulls him over while I video. Lot's of Fun and high fives all around. Even from the shrimper who we rewarded with a couple beers. I think he enjoyed the show.
