This was a trip with Van, Kelly, and Mike Jones of Jacksonville, FL as well as Brax Broadus of Raymond, MS (near Jackson). Van is an old high school friend that looked me up last year and came for a trip. They enjoyed it so much that they returned this year for 2 trips. Brax was a first time client that has been following me and finally found a day to come down and hop onboard. The waves had a bit more chop than we would have liked and we had some fuel filter challenges, but we made a good run of it. My mechanic had changed the head on the fuel filter last maintenance round and I did not know the size was different so my onboard spare would not fit. We cleaned it best we could and continued on. Caught some descent fish and I made 2 Scuba Dives, one on the G-Rig and one on CA43. Dissapointedly we had to release 3 Amberjack, but we were able to pickup some State Water Red Snapper. Thank You, Mississippi for doing that for us. One interesting incident that occurred was when Kelly was catching live hard tails, a Barracuda attacked it boatside and managed to jump into the boat sending Kelly screaming and crashing onto the bow from starboard mid-ship. The Cuda landed on the top of some scuba tanks and managed to flop back into the water. I wasn't looking at the time but turned when I heard the screams in time to see the splash and thought Kelly had gone overboard. I was relieved to see nobody was hurt. You never know what is gonna happen offshore. It was a grand day that encompassed 122 miles, 75 gallons of fuel, and 14.5 hours.
