Celebrating 50 Years of Service with Little Boy at Mary Walker Marina on June 27, 2015© Photos Posted by Mark Miller © Hi-Res Source
This was a gathering for Leon "Little Boy" Mendenhall at Mary Walker Marina in Gautier, Mississippi. Little Boy has so far worked here for 50 years. WLOX TV did a nice story on him as well as the local newspapers. The Marina has quite a History and is the oldest business in the City of Gautier. Back in the late 1980's I spent many afternoons there at the Marina with him when I worked at Singing River Power. We would go up there to clean fish for a fish fry or sometimes just to drink a few friday beers and talk about the work week. Little Boy pretty much ran things there, caught live bait to stock the bait tanks and then scooped them out with a net and into your bucket when you bought them. He put boats in the water, fixed up the place, helped recover from Storms, you name it, he has done it. Anyway, it was a nice little gathering and I just had to go show my respect for this man and take a few pictures. Anyone who has met him knows he has such a great pleasant personality. I just wish Walley and Miss Rita would have survived long enough to see this day. You can also check out the FaceBook Event. Mary Walker Marina is the oldest business in the city of Gautier. The City presented him with a Key to the City and a proclamation (see the photos below). Oh, I should also mention that I live up at the North end of Mary Walker Bayou and run my offshore trips from there.
