This was a trip by David Reed and his son Cameron (12) of Lexington, Kentucky. Also onboard was Andrew Whitman with Gulf South Outdoors taking some video of the trip. We started at a Shrimp Boat about 15 miles out. Found some Shark action. Carson had never caught a big Shark so we put him on one, a nice Black Tip. From there we headed south to the Horseshoe Rig area. On the way we hit a defunct FAD floatsom where we got some triple tails and small mahi mahi. At our destination we caught a couple Amberjack and a nice Scamp. We were hoping for some Tuna but they just were not there. We chummed up a nice school of bonito which had no tuna in it but there was at least one wahoo which we failed to get to bite. I made a dive to the bottom at 215 feet to find some nice hard bottom corals and sponges but no grouper, only red snapper. The GoPro shuts off on me when I get deep like that, from the pressure I guess pushing the button, so I did not get video of the bottom. We also found a small pad of Sargassum which was loaded with triple tail and Mahi Mahi, including a 20 pound Bull and a 22 pound Cow. It was wild watching the Cow get pissed off at the smaller Mahi Mahi attacking our live crack hardtail right in front of her face. Eventually she got one and we got her. I had to put the rod in the holder while dealing with the Bull. I set the drag loose and she spooled the entire Tiagra 30 wide. Luckily we got her in the boat. The ride in got tuff after about half way due to some thunderstorms, but it was a long fun day that encompassed 190 miles, 107 gallons of fuel, and 16 hours.
