Van Jones & Family - August 12, 2015© Photos Posted by Mark Miller © Hi-Res Source This was a trip by Van Jones, his wife Kelly, and his son Michael (14), all from Jacksonville, Florida. Van was an old friend from my post high school days some 30-35 years ago. He said he was wanting to take his son Mike out deep sea fishing and was wondering if I was still into that. After a little internet searching he booked this trip to go after some Amberjack and Red Snapper. The day started out in question as the radar showed some heavy rain showers all along the offshore coast. We headed out anyway and were greeted with some choppy seas but the rain subsided and the seas calmed as the day went on. I made a dive on a shrimp boat hoping for sharks but only found Jacks. We were able to make it out to MP175 and pick up some Amberjack. We also boated some Red Snapper in Mississippi State Waters. The day before they had a warm up on a Culvert Deployment Trip and picked up some nice Grouper. We had a great day on the water that lasted from sunrise to sunset covering 144 miles, 72 gallons of fuel, and 12 hours.
