Time for me to repower my 1996 Proline 240 Sportsman with a Yamaha 300 (Fifth Engine on this boat). Up for sale is my 2007 Honda BF225AKX, Frame Number BAGJ-1500210, Engine Number BEAGJ-1105462. This Engine has 1432 hours. Lower Unit was replaced on September 4, 2009. Cooling system overhauled and Exhaust ports replaced on January 26, 2012. Timing Belt, ECU, and O2 Sensor changed out on November 9, 2012. Click Here for some of my bills.
On the last trip (Feb 16, 2014), I had an incident with a split water line inside the cowling that sprayed saltwater while running and I believe much of it went into the breather. I repaired the water line, but the engine misses, particularly at higher RPMs and there are signs of water in the oil.
I took it to the local dealer (Ocean Marine) who appeared too busy to give a proper diagnosis. After a couple weeks of me calling them for a status, they said "Motor has corrosion and rust throughout. Water in Cylinders, causing motor to miss and run rough. Oil is full of water. New starter, coils, plug wires, heads, etc.". Click Here for their report.
I am looking to get what I can to go toward my new Engine. Hopefully enough to pay for the extended 3 year warranty. Someone good with Engines can get a good deal here. My trips run far offshore and with a single engine, I need dependability and reliability. So place your bid and best of luck to you. The Retail Book value is $7010 to $7875. The Stainless Steel Propeller goes with it as well as the controls, Honda gauges, and a Shop Manual. The Hydraulic Steering does not go with it. I am holding off on removing the Engine in case someone wants to water test it and see the symptoms. After the auction ends, I will have it removed and crated to ship to the buyer.
