This started as a Charter Fishing Trip by Will Cook of Spring, Texas. Looking to put a few more on, he was joined by Aaron Masters of Pascagoula, his Son Jonathan, and Grandsons Jon Jon (14?), and Aiden (6) Masters of Oxford, Mississippi. Working the Deck was Josh Cortner. We decided to target Amberjack since they had just opened and the seas were calm, but it seemed that most of the AJs we hooked were like 1/2 to 1 inch short. We caught some Almacos and of course Red Snapper. I went below and shot a Scamp Grouper and then went again and shot about a 45 pound Donkey AJ, but wouldn't you know the shaft broke at the threads and he escaped. We found some chicken Mahi's on a mooring can but only Will managed to hook one. As he was pulling the fish over, I asked him to leave him in the water to try and keep them around for the others to catch. Wouldn't you know he came off the hook within a few seconds. Although we struggled, the weather was very calm and it made for a full fun-filled day that encompassed 184 miles, 110.7 gallons of fuel, and 15 hours.
