This was a trip by Stephen Cawthon & his son Joseph (14) of Boynton Beach, Floida. My son Paul (18) worked the deck. We headed south stopping briefly in FH-13. We went on to Platform CA-43 and then to
FH-7. We attempted a dive on the Jumbo Barge, but it's 115' Deck was below the murk layer which started at 80'. It's 135 to the bottom. We proceeded to the nearby Platform and then on to Platform MP-175, before heading back North.
Joseph started like he was inshore with a nice Southern Flounder. We hit shrimp boats along the way and caught Bonitos, Jacks, and Sharks. One 150 pound Shark delayed us a good 45 minutes plus because we were hoping it was a huge Cobia. Another Shark took a chunk of Stephen's Red Snapper as he reeled him up (See pic 3330). Plenty of large Red Snapper to pull on the rods. The largest was 22 pounds, caught by Joseph. Paul shot a decent Cobia and a Lionfish. Then Joseph caught a small Mahi in the weedline (pic 3447). Stephen finished the day with a bull of a Jack Crevalle. It was a long fun filled day that encompassed 123 nautical miles, 14 hours, and 63.3 gallons of fuel.
