Reef Monitoring Survey of the Great Wicomico Pogey Boat - March 17, 2012© Photos Posted by Mark Miller © Hi-Res Source
The winds finally laid down after at 6 weeks of blowing. It was St. Patrick's Day and off to FH-13 we went. The crew consisted of 2 of my boys, Paul (16) & Luke (14). We were greeted at the first stop by a friendly Sea Turtle. We hooked up plenty of Red Snapper, a nice Gag Grouper, and a Redfish. Paul speared his first Cobia with Luke's Speargun, and Luke poked some Sheepshead with his Pole Spear. We made a dive as part of continued MGFB monitoring on the Great Wicomico Pogey Boat. The visibility was poor and the water chilly so we only made one dive. The surface temp was 69° and on the reef it was 66°. There was also Fog coming and going throughout the day. Total trip encompassed 63 miles, 8.5 hours, and 37 gallons of fuel. It was really nice to get my underwater fix since the last one on February 4.
