It was memorial day weekend, calm seas, and Luke was turning 15. His desire was for a deep water diving and fishing trip,
so at around 3PM on Saturday, off we went. Luke picked the crew which consisted of Cory Lambert, Alec Newton, Breland Sheppard, and Seth Barzelay.
We stopped momentarily on the way out in FH-13 and on some buoys and eventually got to MP289 and the Salt Dome.
We did not find any Yellowfin Tuna, but we did have a great time, caught plenty of fish, and made many dives.
I dove on the Salt Dome, MP288, MP287, Louisiana 34, a Sargassum Patch, the FH-7 Rowan Crew Quarters, and the FH-7 Jumbo Barge.
The water conditions were well above par on FH-7 with mid-water visibily approaching 200 feet and divable visibilty even on the structure.
I got to take Video of the Salt Dome to compare with footage I took back on May 6, 2010 shortly after the BP oil spill.
I also got some great photos of tropicals on the Rigs and we all got to swim with a pod of wild Dolphins. Cory had a Shark encounter as did I.
We also got to do some reef monitoring work for MGFB in FH-7 making dives on the Rowan Crew Quarters and the Jumbo Barge.
It was a long fun filled trip that encompassed 181 nautical miles, 112.7 gallons of fuel, and 28.2 hours.
