Petit Bois Island & Rig 69 Dive on April 2, 2011© Photos Posted by Mark Miller © Hi-Res Source
This was a trip on April 2, 2011 to Petit Bois Island, FH-13, and Rig 69. Several stayed on Petit Bois while 5 of us went out to the Linda Susan Tug Boat. It was myself, my 3 sons Ben (17), Paul (15), Luke (13), and Wesley Lyons. We planned to dive there and several other reefs in FH-13, but the visibility was very poor below 35 feet. So instead we ran out to Rig 69 for some shallow Rig Diving. We hit a nice patch of Sargassum just before the rig and sighted several Sea Turtles, small Triple Tails, and even a very nice Wahoo estimated at 70-90 pounds. We saw him cruising the surface with his tail and dorsal fins showing above the waterline. We thought it was a shark and went to investigate and we were pleasantly surprised to see such a nice fish. Initially we threw a plug, but he glanced quickly at it before disappearing for good. We then went to the Rig, made a dive, caught a few fish, Luke did some jumps, and then fished a few wrecks on the way in. Total trip encompassed 74.2 miles, 10 Hours, and 40.7 gallons of fuel.
