This was a trip by Brandon Gunter of St. Charles, Louisiana. He brought Jessica and his boys Hayden (12) and Collin (9). My son Paul (16) and his friend Alec Newton (16) worked the Deck. We really were not sure about making the trip, but the morning radar check showed nothing and the winds had died down to 6 knots from 26 knots the day before. As we headed out, a line of showers brewed up. We tried to start in close and actually hung a couple big fish right off, but put nothing in the boat and the activity was just not there. Even though we started late, we thought we could get through to the South side of the rain and hit some deeper stuff we did good on the weekend before. So off we went, but when we finally arrived at our spot some 50 miles away, there were about 6 Shrimp boats scattered all around it and had apparently chummed up the Sharks. We could not get our lines down to the Snapper and Grouper we knew where there and we were losing lots of Gear. We then started hitting the Shrimp Boats themselves for some Cobia and some sight fishing. It paid off with 2 Cobia and 2 Kings. We lost alot more and had fun with the Bonito. Hayden caught one Bonito that went 11 pounds. We then headed north stopping at FH-7 for some Red Snapper. Jessica boated one at 14 pounds. The rain began really setting in and we were getting cold and tired of it so we headed north. We made the best of a rainy cloudy day that encompassed 124 miles, 77 gallons of fuel, and 10.5 hours.
