Eric & Zack Hartman - June 11, 2011© Posted by Mark Miller © Hi-Res Source
This was a Trip with Eric Hartman and his son Zack from Pascagoula, MS. My boys Paul (16) and Luke (14) worked the Deck. The weather was very cooperative and we didn't even start until we got out to 115 feet of water passing through FH-13 and observing the many boats utilizing those reefs. Our first stop on a Shrimp Boat proved productive as we were enticed to cut some rope out of his wheel in exchange for a nice sack of shrimp. We then hit some Rigs and caught nice fish including some Mangrove Snapper. Zack showed some interest in Rig Jumping he had seen us do on previous trips so Luke took him up to let him try. We then proceeded out to FH-7 catching several more nice fish. Eric had one nice King on there that broke off boatside. Luke and I made a dive on the Jumbo Barge in FH-7. The water clouded up below 90 feet preventing us from making observations on the reef, but there were plenty of fish up above to entertain us. We then went to MP175A where we dove taking the photos and video shown below. It was a very enjoyable dive. We then worked northeast past MP154, the Blue Dolphin, and the Fox Tug. Luke hooked up a really nice Gag Grouper as seen below which we released unharmed (Season opens Sept.16). It was a long fun filled day in the Sun encompassing 126 Miles, 13.6 hours, and 71.8 gallons of fuel.
