This was a trip aboard the "Reel Time", a 61' Hatteras docked at Dog River Marina in Mobile, AL. The owners, Tommy McArthur and David Wooten, graciously invited me to tag along for some fishing. Also aboard was our Captain Doug Jones and Tyrone Crawley. Initially we were going to fish the Mobile Big Game Fishing Club Labor Day Tournament, but with most Marlin Waters still closed to fishing, the plans were changed to just go do some fishing since at least some waters were just opened up. In fact, I noticed that no Marlins were showing in the Tournament Results Board. Our plan was to head out to the fishing grounds on Day 1, fish Swordfish that night and the next day fish more Swords as well as Tuna and Mahi, and then return on Day 3. We passed through a few fish on the way out, picking up a small Mahi-Mahi, a small Yellowfin Tuna, a Skipjack Tuna, and a Bonito. Rather than work the fish we found, we headed out to the Swordfish waters at the Spur. Swordfishing was a bust that night and we also encountered problems with one of the generators and some other mechanical issues that prompted a return run back to the dock. Therefore, we missed out on our day of fishing. Although the fishing was weak, it was a good shake-down cruise for the "Reel-Time". The Vessel is awesome and I hope I get to make a future trip on her.
