Scott Fleming - Trip to Horn Island - March 30 to April 3, 2010© Photos by Mark Miller © Hi-Res Source
This was a solo trip by Scott Fleming of Mandeville, LA to Horn Island. I dropped him off on March 30 while enroute to deploy Bay Balls for MGFB. Scott is a Veteran Hiker who has done the entire Appalachian Trail (It took 5 months). Him telling me that made me feel much better about dropping him off solo. Anyway, he had a great time despite the fact that someone had to steal the Kayak that I loaned him along with the paddle, a nice life jacket, and some of his water rations. That really surprised me as most people that go to the Islands are good natured. It's a good thing that the Kayak wasn't his sole means of transportation as they sometimes are. If anybody knows the whereabouts or details of this theft, please let me know. You can see the Kayak in the pictures below and here is a good picture of it. It was left behind some sand dunes near the Tire Swing and we found a track where they dragged it to the shoreline. There were kids footprints there too. Not a good thing to teach one's children. Anyway, Scott seemed to really enjoy the outdoors on Horn Island. He currently is an English Teacher for 7th and 8th Graders and he is writing a book! I think he could be the next Walter Anderson.
