John Layman & FH-7 Trip - October 9, 2010© Photos Posted by Mark Miller © Hi-Res Source
This started out as a deep water trip to survey some of the reefs in FH-7 and then hit some shelf rigs, but the seas were a little choppier than forecasted so we ended up staying around FH-7. John Layman of Ocean Springs called on Friday and tagged along for some Scuba Diving. Also onboard were my Boys, Ben (16), Paul (15), and Luke (13). The Red Snapper were thick and the Diving was Good. We started on the Rowan Crew Quarters and then hit the Jumbo Barge. We also fished the Tug Boat and the Von Rosenberg Pogey Boat. All had some really nice fish on them. John set 2 personal life records shooting his biggest Grouper and catching his largest Red Snapper. Paul caught a nice King Mackerel which put a hook into John's hand - Ouch! If there were a reward for the ugliest fish caught, Paul would win that with the Redfish you see below in pic 99. I wonder if the BP Oil Spill had anything to do with his condition. We then made a Dive on MP-175 which was really nice too. All in all, it was a really fun day on the water. Total trip encompassed 114.4 Miles, 12.5 Hours, and 67.2 gallons of fuel. John sent these comments: “After 27 years of diving in every body of water on earth, Mark and his boys showed me the best day of diving of my life. I have never seen so many snapper and shot the biggest one ever. I also shot my largest grouper on the same dive. Mark’s boys taught me to fish for ocean fish. Despite my lack of experience, I caught fish until my arms were sore. This is my second dive trip with Mark and I’m really looking forward to going with him again.” See John's 2007 Trip
