USDA Trip to Petit Bois Island - July 26, 2007© Photos by Mark Miller © Hi-Res Source
This was a charter by the USDA to Petit Bois Island to collect some insect traps previously deposited on the Island. Apparently there is a problem with a specific species of Moth that eats Cactus. The species started showing up in South Florida and has migrated northward around the Gulf and has started showing up on Dauphin Island. It was desired to see if they have made it to Petit Bois which is the next Island to the West. Preliminary results indicated they have not made it there, but the samples still have to be inspected by the expert scientists. While they were collecting their traps, I had little to do besides taking photos of the Island flora and fauna.
