This was a one man charter by Ryan Oestmann from Rapid City, South Dakota. Since we were short on fishermen, my sons Ben and Paul tagged along with their friend Ty Cochran. We started in FH-13 where we were successful bagging a half a dozen red snapper in the 17-24 inch size range. We really wanted to bag something bigger and the seas were cooperative so we headed deeper. Action was pretty slow. We happened across a decent weed line, but there was not even any good bait action. We went further to block 37 and still had little action. We put several hard tail in the live well and went further to FH-7. Action was pretty slow there and nothing was hitting the live bait either. We ventured even further out, as far as 175 feet of water, but still couldn't find any big fish. We worked our way back toward the west hitting a few more rigs and wrecks. We landed several nice snapper, a gag grouper that was 1/4 inch short, a few sharks and a couple white trout. No big fish nor any cobia were seen, but we had a nice fun day of fishing and the weather was pretty nice with relatively calm seas. Total trip encompassed 131.3 miles and 14 hours.
