The weather had been so rough for several weeks and a weather window was opening up. I called a charter inquiry to let them know, but they couldn't make it. So then I called on a couple fishing buddies and my 8 year old son Paul to make it happen. The crew was Mark and Paul Miller, Waldemar and Billy Larsen, and John Knight. We left out on Saturday afternoon at about 4PM and got to the Ram Powell at about 830 PM after quickly checking a couple spots along the way. The Blackfin were a little active on jigs upon arrival but trolling was slow to produce. Walde managed to pick up a 25 pound Cow Dolphin on a live hard tail and we jigged up 4 or 5 small Blackfin. Things then got real slow about 1AM so we decided on a cat nap for a couple hours. At about 230 AM we started back on trolling and picked up a 30 pound Bull Dolphin. We had trouble getting hits trolling, but we could mark fish, so we started chumming and jigging. We then produced a few more Blackfin and 2 nice Yellowfin. We started trolling again and picked up another Yellowfin and then had a double hookup of very small Blackfin. We put the Blackfin back out as live bait and picked up another Yellowfin. The Yellowfin was being very difficult to land and when we finally got him to the boat we saw why. He had gotten the circle hook in the tail! Anyway, we had plenty of meat and the forecast was for increasing seas, so we headed in at about 7:30AM. It was a good 205 mile round trip with the Yellowfin weighing in between 67 and 77 pounds each.
