Jay Schmidt & Crew - June 8, 2003
The crew consisted of Jay Schmidt of Ocean Springs, Allen Peregoy of Biloxi, Julie Pierce of Ocean Springs, and Susan from D'Iberville. Foul weather during the prior 2 days caused another trip's cancellation. Conditions were still a little rough starting out which caused us to take some fishing breaks on the way out. We found some good action on some shrimp boats and had plenty of good hard pulls from Jack Crevalles and Bonito. Jay hooked a white trout on a rig just prior to getting to the boats which had been waiting in the live well. One of the boats produced a nice 60 pound cobia which couldn't resist the live trout. Julie hooked a slightly smaller cobia on another boat but he managed to chaff the line and get free. One crew member suffered some motion sickness which caused us to scout fishing grounds closer in and we just couldn't seem to produce any quality snapper or grouper on these shallower sites, but everyone had alot of fun. There were also plenty of sharks and we took back a couple nice Black Tips, both giving sporting fights on a TLD15 with 30 pound line. Total trip encompassed 99 miles and 10.5 hours.
